Back in 2017, I was already captivated by the JW Marriott Phu Quoc. Now it’s 2023, and I’ve witnessed the prices of this hotel soaring.
A diamond always shines, and it wouldn’t make sense for a good hotel to remain underpriced. I still believe that the price of the JW Marriott Phu Quoc is undervalued.
As stated in the title, the JW Marriott Phu Quoc is my most favorite JW Marriott in the world, and it stands alone without competition!
Yes, I am openly praising this hotel.
Today, I’ll first put out a review of the JW Marriott Phu Quoc. We are also working hard to bring you some package deals for this hotel, hoping to secure a recommendable price.
The JW Marriott Phu Quoc is absolutely stunning.
It’s a place where even casual shots turn out beautifully without needing filters.
Every room, every public space allows me to take multiple satisfactory photos. Every installation, every piece of furniture, and every plant in the garden offers delightful surprises.
Turquoise, Tiffany blue, pastel pink, soft yellow… The hotel is filled with various sweet but not overwhelming candy colors, and they all blend harmoniously.
The hotel also exudes a strong French Victorian vibe, as if stepping into a world rich with historical color.
The JW Marriott Phu Quoc is full of stories.
Designed by the master Bill Bensley, he defined the hotel as a “fantasy campus.”
From the very beginning, this has been a hotel with a lot of “history.” The hotel’s predecessor was Lamarck University (1880-1940). In the 1940s, this university was closed, sealed, and shut down. Many buildings were abandoned or destroyed due to disrepair.
In the tale that followed, classrooms turned into guest rooms, offices became public areas, and the ancient mushroom mycology lab transformed into the breathtaking Chanterelle Spa.
Even, the great-great-grandson of Lamarck University’s first dean was invited back to be the new dean.
Hahaha! Actually, all of this is a story made up by the hotel.
Universite Lamarck is a completely fictional school. The imaginative Bill Bensley merged the newly constructed campus with the ideology of Lamarck, creating this university. He even concocted a 100-year-long history for it.
For me, it feels like living in Hogwarts. Although the styles differ, being there still feels like stepping into a fairy tale.
The JW Marriott Phu Quoc has an impressive collection of artifacts.
The hotel houses over 5,000 antiques, all collected by designer Bill Bensley during his two-year tour of Europe.
Isn’t that an astonishing number?
Additionally, the beach at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc is undoubtedly the best I’ve experienced among all the Vietnamese hotels I’ve visited. The powdery sand feels incredibly comfortable underfoot.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great during my visit, so I couldn’t capture the beauty of the sea in photos.
Wouldn’t you say a hotel like this deserves to be deeply loved?
Of course, I haven’t stayed at many JW Marriott hotels or Marriott properties overall. I’m sure the readers of Xiyou are more experienced. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know if there’s any other JW Marriott that can rival the one in Phu Quoc.
During this visit, I stayed at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc for three nights and, unusually, chose three different room types.
As you will see, the JW Marriott Phu Quoc offers dozens of room types, each distinctly unique. This hotel is definitely worth multiple stays, experiencing different rooms each time.
The first night was in an Emerald Bay View King Room, which features a color palette of black, white, and red, geometric colorful patterned tiles, and vintage decor accents—truly stunning.
The room had a spacious bathroom and a large balcony that offered an unobstructed view of Emerald Bay.
And realize, this is just the basic room type at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc.
The welcome gift was a book and a pen, both edible. Welcome to Universite Lamarck.
The second night, I stayed in the Turquoise Suite (the basic suite), with a charming fresh color scheme of blue, green, and white.
What I loved most about this suite was its all-white bathroom.
Plus, the view of the sea through the window was spectacular.
If the budget allows, I genuinely recommend the Turquoise Suite.
The third night, I stayed in a villa, featuring a living room that was love-at-first-sight material, adorned with fish paintings on the walls.
The bedroom and bathroom had a distinctly Southeast Asian vibe.
It even had a private pool. However, most villas at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc do not offer sea views.
## Translation
The public areas of the hotel are even more impressive!
First of all, almost every room has a different color scheme.
The French restaurant is in a girlish pink. This is a color that can touch the most girlish and softest part of a woman’s heart. It’s like a gentle and sweet dream.
It feels like a restaurant that girls simply cannot resist.
The SPA is in a goose yellow tone, converted from an old mycology laboratory, filled with various mushroom elements.
The seaside bar is a chemistry lab, with staff dressed in white lab coats, and chemical formulas and reagents everywhere. It reminds me of the fear of being dominated by top students.
I was never good at chemistry class.
The hotel lobby is in black and white, exuding a high-end feel.
It looks more like a collection room and library, with many displays recording all the honors of this 140-year-old hotel.
Lamarck University’s most famous achievement is winning the Asian Rugby Championship in 1929. Since then, the giant trophy of this event has proudly stood in the atrium of the hotel lobby.
There is also a gym, filled with banners of honors won by Lamarck University.
This is the perfection of details. The date board on the gym wall looks very much like a scoreboard in a competition.
Oh, by the way, this hotel also has its own private beach and infinity pool. You see, I didn’t even highlight these because everything else is just too dazzling.
Finally, let me briefly introduce Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam (I will write a detailed guide on Phu Quoc Island, but this will be brief).
Phu Quoc Island is the largest island in Vietnam, visa-free with direct flights, and the temperature is above 20°C all year round.
Half of the island’s area is a national park. In the 2014 National Geographic Best Winter Travel Destinations selection, it ranked third.
I have been to Phuket, Long Beach, and Bali, and I can responsibly say that Phu Quoc Island is really not inferior to these three mainstream Southeast Asian islands.
The airfare to Phu Quoc Island is actually quite reasonable. I checked round-trip tickets, and in November and December, direct flights from Hong Kong to Phu Quoc Island are basically 609 one-way, 1127 round-trip including tax.
Other cities can consider buying tickets from XX to Kuala Lumpur to Phu Quoc Island during AirAsia promotions, and round-trip tickets for around 1k+ are basically achievable.
